The South India Journalist Union is a union of working journalists dedicated to the protection, welfare and empowerment of the people who report the news. We stand with reporters, photographers, camerapersons, anchors, editors and digital journalists when they need support most, and we champion press freedom and journalistic integrity.
South India’s media works in many languages and across very different newsrooms, from district stringers to national channels. SIJU gives all of them one place to organise: a common voice on safety, fair pay and contracts, and the right to report without fear.
Members carry a union press card and membership certificate, and they join state chapters in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Puducherry.
We will also recognise outstanding journalism through the SIJU Media Honours, and support members’ families in times of crisis through a welfare fund.
